Sura 28 Al-Qasas (The Stories), ayah 58
-
وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ بَطِرَتْ مَعِيشَتَهَا ۖ فَتِلْكَ مَسَاكِنُهُمْ لَمْ تُسْكَنْ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ۖ وَكُنَّا نَحْنُ الْوَارِثِينَ
Translation by words
- وَكَمْ
- And how many
- أَهْلَكْنَا
- We have destroyed
- مِن
- of
- قَرْيَةٍۭ
- a town
- بَطِرَتْ
- which exulted,
- مَعِيشَتَهَا
- (in) its means of livelihood.
- فَتِلْكَ
- And these
- مَسَٰكِنُهُمْ
- (are) their dwellings
- لَمْ
- not
- تُسْكَن
- have been inhabited
- مِّنۢ
- after them
- بَعْدِهِمْ
- after them
- إِلَّا
- except
- قَلِيلًا
- a little.
- وَكُنَّا
- And indeed, [We]
- نَحْنُ
- We
- ٱلْوَٰرِثِينَ
- (are) the inheritors.
And how many a city have We destroyed that was insolent in its (way of) living, and those are their dwellings which have not been inhabited after them except briefly. And it is We who were the inheritors.
