Sura 2 Al-Baqarah (The Cow), ayah 189

  1. يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْأَهِلَّةِ ۖ قُلْ هِيَ مَوَاقِيتُ لِلنَّاسِ وَالْحَجِّ ۗ وَلَيْسَ الْبِرُّ بِأَنْ تَأْتُوا الْبُيُوتَ مِنْ ظُهُورِهَا وَلَٰكِنَّ الْبِرَّ مَنِ اتَّقَىٰ ۗ وَأْتُوا الْبُيُوتَ مِنْ أَبْوَابِهَا ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ

    Translation by words

    يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ
    They ask you
    عَنِ
    about
    ٱلْأَهِلَّةِ
    the new moons.
    قُلْ
    Say,
    هِىَ
    "They
    مَوَٰقِيتُ
    (are) indicators of periods
    لِلنَّاسِ
    for the people,
    وَٱلْحَجِّ
    and (for) the Hajj."
    وَلَيْسَ
    And it is not
    ٱلْبِرُّ
    [the] righteousness
    بِأَن
    that
    تَأْتُوا۟
    you come
    ٱلْبُيُوتَ
    (to) the houses
    مِن
    from
    ظُهُورِهَا
    their backs,
    وَلَٰكِنَّ
    [and] but
    ٱلْبِرَّ
    [the] righteous
    مَنِ
    (is one) who
    ٱتَّقَىٰ
    fears (Allah).
    وَأْتُوا۟
    And come
    ٱلْبُيُوتَ
    (to) the houses
    مِنْ
    from
    أَبْوَٰبِهَا
    their doors.
    وَٱتَّقُوا۟
    And fear
    ٱللَّهَ
    Allah
    لَعَلَّكُمْ
    so that you may
    تُفْلِحُونَ
    (be) successful.

    They ask you, (O Muhammad), about the new moons. Say, "They are measurements of time for the people and for Hajj." And it is not righteousness to enter houses from the back, but righteousness is (in) one who fears Allah. And enter houses from their doors. And fear Allah that you may succeed.
