Sura 3 Ali 'Imran (Family of Imran), ayah 78

  1. وَإِنَّ مِنْهُمْ لَفَرِيقًا يَلْوُونَ أَلْسِنَتَهُمْ بِالْكِتَابِ لِتَحْسَبُوهُ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَيَقُولُونَ هُوَ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ وَمَا هُوَ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ وَيَقُولُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ الْكَذِبَ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ

    Translation by words

    وَإِنَّ
    And indeed,
    مِنْهُمْ
    among them
    لَفَرِيقًا
    surely (is) a group -
    يَلْوُۥنَ
    they distort
    أَلْسِنَتَهُم
    their tongues
    بِٱلْكِتَٰبِ
    in (reciting) the Book
    لِتَحْسَبُوهُ
    so that you may think it
    مِنَ
    (is) from
    ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
    the Book
    وَمَا
    and not
    هُوَ
    it
    مِنَ
    (is) from
    ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
    the Book.
    وَيَقُولُونَ
    And they say,
    هُوَ
    "It
    مِنْ
    (is)
    عِندِ
    from
    ٱللَّهِ
    Allah."
    وَمَا
    But not
    هُوَ
    it
    مِنْ
    (is)
    عِندِ
    from
    ٱللَّهِ
    Allah.
    وَيَقُولُونَ
    And they say
    عَلَى
    about
    ٱللَّهِ
    Allah
    ٱلْكَذِبَ
    the lie
    وَهُمْ
    while they
    يَعْلَمُونَ
    know.

    And indeed, there is among them a party who alter the Scripture with their tongues so you may think it is from the Scripture, but it is not from the Scripture. And they say, "This is from Allah," but it is not from Allah. And they speak untruth about Allah while they know.
