Sura 40 Ghafir (The Forgiver), ayah 21

  1. أَوَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَيَنْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ كَانُوا هُمْ أَشَدَّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً وَآثَارًا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَأَخَذَهُمُ اللَّهُ بِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَمَا كَانَ لَهُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ مِنْ وَاقٍ

    Translation by words

    أَوَلَمْ
    Do not
    يَسِيرُوا۟
    they travel
    فِى
    in
    ٱلْأَرْضِ
    the earth
    فَيَنظُرُوا۟
    and see
    كَيْفَ
    how
    كَانَ
    was
    عَٰقِبَةُ
    (the) end
    ٱلَّذِينَ
    (of) those who
    كَانُوا۟
    were
    مِن
    before them?
    قَبْلِهِمْ
    before them?
    كَانُوا۟
    They were
    هُمْ
    [they]
    أَشَدَّ
    superior
    مِنْهُمْ
    to them
    قُوَّةً
    (in) strength
    وَءَاثَارًا
    and (in) impressions
    فِى
    in
    ٱلْأَرْضِ
    the land,
    فَأَخَذَهُمُ
    but Allah seized them
    ٱللَّهُ
    but Allah seized them
    بِذُنُوبِهِمْ
    for their sins,
    وَمَا
    and not
    كَانَ
    was
    لَهُم
    for them
    مِّنَ
    against
    ٱللَّهِ
    Allah
    مِن
    any
    وَاقٍ
    protector.

    Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those who were before them? They were greater than them in strength and in impression on the land, but Allah seized them for their sins. And they had not from Allah any protector.

    40:21
