Sura 9 At-Tawbah (The Repentance), ayah 34

  1. يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِنَ الْأَحْبَارِ وَالرُّهْبَانِ لَيَأْكُلُونَ أَمْوَالَ النَّاسِ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۗ وَالَّذِينَ يَكْنِزُونَ الذَّهَبَ وَالْفِضَّةَ وَلَا يُنْفِقُونَهَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَبَشِّرْهُمْ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

    Translation by words

    يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
    O you who believe!
    ٱلَّذِينَ
    O you who believe!
    ءَامَنُوٓا۟
    O you who believe!
    إِنَّ
    Indeed,
    كَثِيرًا
    many
    مِّنَ
    of
    ٱلْأَحْبَارِ
    the rabbis
    وَٱلرُّهْبَانِ
    and the monks
    لَيَأْكُلُونَ
    surely eat
    أَمْوَٰلَ
    (the) wealth
    ٱلنَّاسِ
    (of) the people
    بِٱلْبَٰطِلِ
    in falsehood,
    وَيَصُدُّونَ
    and hinder
    عَن
    from
    سَبِيلِ
    (the) way
    ٱللَّهِ
    (of) Allah.
    وَٱلَّذِينَ
    And those who
    يَكْنِزُونَ
    hoard
    ٱلذَّهَبَ
    the gold
    وَٱلْفِضَّةَ
    and the silver,
    وَلَا
    and (do) not
    يُنفِقُونَهَا
    spend it
    فِى
    in
    سَبِيلِ
    (the) way
    ٱللَّهِ
    (of) Allah,
    فَبَشِّرْهُم
    [so] give them tidings
    بِعَذَابٍ
    of a punishment
    أَلِيمٍ
    painful.

    O you who have believed, indeed many of the scholars and the monks devour the wealth of people unjustly and avert (them) from the way of Allah. And those who hoard gold and silver and spend it not in the way of Allah - give them tidings of a painful punishment.
