Sura 25 Al-Furqan (The Criterion), ayah 45

  1. أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَيْفَ مَدَّ الظِّلَّ وَلَوْ شَاءَ لَجَعَلَهُ سَاكِنًا ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَا الشَّمْسَ عَلَيْهِ دَلِيلًا

    Translation by words

    أَلَمْ
    Do you not
    تَرَ
    see
    إِلَىٰ
    [to]
    رَبِّكَ
    your Lord
    كَيْفَ
    how
    مَدَّ
    He extends
    ٱلظِّلَّ
    the shadow?
    وَلَوْ
    And if
    شَآءَ
    He willed,
    لَجَعَلَهُۥ
    surely He (could) have made it
    سَاكِنًا
    stationary.
    ثُمَّ
    Then
    جَعَلْنَا
    We made
    ٱلشَّمْسَ
    the sun
    عَلَيْهِ
    for it
    دَلِيلًا
    an indication.

    Have you not considered your Lord - how He extends the shadow, and if He willed, He could have made it stationary? Then We made the sun for it an indication.
