Sura 2 Al-Baqarah (The Cow), ayah 183

  1. يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

    Translation by words

    يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
    O you
    ٱلَّذِينَ
    who
    ءَامَنُوا۟
    believe[d]!
    كُتِبَ
    Is prescribed
    عَلَيْكُمُ
    for you
    ٱلصِّيَامُ
    [the] fasting
    كَمَا
    as
    كُتِبَ
    was prescribed
    عَلَى
    to
    ٱلَّذِينَ
    those
    مِن
    from
    قَبْلِكُمْ
    before you,
    لَعَلَّكُمْ
    so that you may
    تَتَّقُونَ
    (become) righteous.

    O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous -

    2:183
