Sura 2 Al-Baqarah (The Cow), ayah 34

  1. وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا لِآدَمَ فَسَجَدُوا إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ

    Translation by words

    وَإِذْ
    And when
    قُلْنَا
    We said
    لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ
    to the angels,
    ٱسْجُدُوا۟
    "Prostrate
    لِءَادَمَ
    to Adam,"
    فَسَجَدُوٓا۟
    [so] they prostrated
    إِلَّآ
    except
    إِبْلِيسَ
    Iblis.
    أَبَىٰ
    He refused
    وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ
    and was arrogant
    وَكَانَ
    and became
    مِنَ
    of
    ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
    the disbelievers.

    And (mention) when We said to the angels, "Prostrate before Adam"; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers.
