Sura 3 Ali 'Imran (Family of Imran), ayah 36

  1. فَلَمَّا وَضَعَتْهَا قَالَتْ رَبِّ إِنِّي وَضَعْتُهَا أُنْثَىٰ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا وَضَعَتْ وَلَيْسَ الذَّكَرُ كَالْأُنْثَىٰ ۖ وَإِنِّي سَمَّيْتُهَا مَرْيَمَ وَإِنِّي أُعِيذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

    Translation by words

    فَلَمَّا
    Then when
    وَضَعَتْهَا
    she delivered her,
    قَالَتْ
    she said,
    رَبِّ
    "My Lord,
    إِنِّى
    indeed I
    وَضَعْتُهَآ
    [I] (have) delivered [her]
    أُنثَىٰ
    a female."
    وَٱللَّهُ
    And Allah
    أَعْلَمُ
    knows better
    بِمَا
    [of] what
    وَضَعَتْ
    she delivered,
    وَلَيْسَ
    and is not
    ٱلذَّكَرُ
    the male
    كَٱلْأُنثَىٰ
    like the female.
    وَإِنِّى
    "And that I
    سَمَّيْتُهَا
    [I] (have) named her
    مَرْيَمَ
    Maryam
    وَإِنِّىٓ
    and that I
    أُعِيذُهَا
    [I] seek refuge for her
    بِكَ
    in You
    وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا
    and her offspring
    مِنَ
    from
    ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ
    the Shaitaan
    ٱلرَّجِيمِ
    the rejected."

    But when she delivered her, she said, "My Lord, I have delivered a female." And Allah was most knowing of what she delivered, "And the male is not like the female. And I have named her Mary, and I seek refuge for her in You and (for) her descendants from Satan, the expelled (from the mercy of Allah)."
