Sura 48 Al-Fath (The Victory), ayah 12

  1. بَلْ ظَنَنْتُمْ أَنْ لَنْ يَنْقَلِبَ الرَّسُولُ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِيهِمْ أَبَدًا وَزُيِّنَ ذَٰلِكَ فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ وَظَنَنْتُمْ ظَنَّ السَّوْءِ وَكُنْتُمْ قَوْمًا بُورًا

    Translation by words

    بَلْ
    Nay,
    ظَنَنتُمْ
    you thought
    أَن
    that
    لَّن
    (would) never
    يَنقَلِبَ
    return
    ٱلرَّسُولُ
    the Messenger
    وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
    and the believers
    إِلَىٰٓ
    to
    أَهْلِيهِمْ
    their families
    أَبَدًا
    ever,
    وَزُيِّنَ
    that was made fair-seeming
    ذَٰلِكَ
    that was made fair-seeming
    فِى
    in
    قُلُوبِكُمْ
    your hearts.
    وَظَنَنتُمْ
    And you assumed
    ظَنَّ
    an assumption
    ٱلسَّوْءِ
    evil,
    وَكُنتُمْ
    and you became
    قَوْمًۢا
    a people
    بُورًا
    ruined."

    But you thought that the Messenger and the believers would never return to their families, ever, and that was made pleasing in your hearts. And you assumed an assumption of evil and became a people ruined."

    48:12
