Sura 49 Al-Hujurat (The Inner Apartments), ayah 11

  1. يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا يَسْخَرْ قَوْمٌ مِنْ قَوْمٍ عَسَىٰ أَنْ يَكُونُوا خَيْرًا مِنْهُمْ وَلَا نِسَاءٌ مِنْ نِسَاءٍ عَسَىٰ أَنْ يَكُنَّ خَيْرًا مِنْهُنَّ ۖ وَلَا تَلْمِزُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ وَلَا تَنَابَزُوا بِالْأَلْقَابِ ۖ بِئْسَ الِاسْمُ الْفُسُوقُ بَعْدَ الْإِيمَانِ ۚ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَتُبْ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ

    Translation by words

    يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
    O you who believe!
    ٱلَّذِينَ
    O you who believe!
    ءَامَنُوا۟
    O you who believe!
    لَا
    (Let) not
    يَسْخَرْ
    ridicule
    قَوْمٌ
    a people
    مِّن
    [of]
    قَوْمٍ
    (another) people,
    عَسَىٰٓ
    perhaps
    أَن
    that
    يَكُونُوا۟
    they may be
    خَيْرًا
    better
    مِّنْهُمْ
    than them;
    وَلَا
    and (let) not
    نِسَآءٌ
    women
    مِّن
    [of]
    نِّسَآءٍ
    (other) women
    عَسَىٰٓ
    perhaps
    أَن
    that
    يَكُنَّ
    they may be
    خَيْرًا
    better
    مِّنْهُنَّ
    than them.
    وَلَا
    And (do) not
    تَلْمِزُوٓا۟
    insult
    أَنفُسَكُمْ
    yourselves
    وَلَا
    and (do) not
    تَنَابَزُوا۟
    call each other
    بِٱلْأَلْقَٰبِ
    by nicknames.
    بِئْسَ
    Wretched is
    ٱلِٱسْمُ
    the name
    ٱلْفُسُوقُ
    (of) disobedience
    بَعْدَ
    after
    ٱلْإِيمَٰنِ
    the faith.
    وَمَن
    And whoever
    لَّمْ
    (does) not
    يَتُبْ
    repent,
    فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
    then those -
    هُمُ
    they
    ٱلظَّٰلِمُونَ
    (are) the wrongdoers.

    O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule (another) people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule (other) women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by (offensive) nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after (one's) faith. And whoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers.
