Sura 4 An-Nisa (The Women), ayah 129
-
وَلَنْ تَسْتَطِيعُوا أَنْ تَعْدِلُوا بَيْنَ النِّسَاءِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتُمْ ۖ فَلَا تَمِيلُوا كُلَّ الْمَيْلِ فَتَذَرُوهَا كَالْمُعَلَّقَةِ ۚ وَإِنْ تُصْلِحُوا وَتَتَّقُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا
Translation by words
- وَلَن
- And never
- تَسْتَطِيعُوٓا۟
- will you be able
- أَن
- to
- تَعْدِلُوا۟
- deal justly
- بَيْنَ
- between
- ٱلنِّسَآءِ
- [the] women
- وَلَوْ
- even if
- حَرَصْتُمْ
- you desired,
- فَلَا
- but (do) not
- تَمِيلُوا۟
- incline
- كُلَّ
- (with) all
- ٱلْمَيْلِ
- the inclination
- فَتَذَرُوهَا
- and leave her (the other)
- كَٱلْمُعَلَّقَةِ
- like the suspended one.
- وَإِن
- And if
- تُصْلِحُوا۟
- you reconcile
- وَتَتَّقُوا۟
- and fear (Allah)
- فَإِنَّ
- then indeed,
- ٱللَّهَ
- Allah
- كَانَ
- is
- غَفُورًا
- Oft-Forgiving,
- رَّحِيمًا
- Most Merciful.
And you will never be able to be equal (in feeling) between wives, even if you should strive (to do so). So do not incline completely (toward one) and leave another hanging. And if you amend (your affairs) and fear Allah - then indeed, Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.
