Sura 5 Al-Ma'idah (The Table Spread), ayah 91
-
إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ الشَّيْطَانُ أَنْ يُوقِعَ بَيْنَكُمُ الْعَدَاوَةَ وَالْبَغْضَاءَ فِي الْخَمْرِ وَالْمَيْسِرِ وَيَصُدَّكُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَعَنِ الصَّلَاةِ ۖ فَهَلْ أَنْتُمْ مُنْتَهُونَ
Translation by words
- إِنَّمَا
- Only
- يُرِيدُ
- intends
- ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ
- the Shaitaan
- أَن
- to
- يُوقِعَ
- cause
- بَيْنَكُمُ
- between you
- ٱلْعَدَٰوَةَ
- [the] enmity
- وَٱلْبَغْضَآءَ
- and [the] hatred
- فِى
- through
- ٱلْخَمْرِ
- intoxicants
- وَٱلْمَيْسِرِ
- and gambling,
- وَيَصُدَّكُمْ
- and hinders you
- عَن
- from
- ذِكْرِ
- (the) remembrance
- ٱللَّهِ
- (of) Allah
- وَعَنِ
- and from
- ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ
- the prayer.
- فَهَلْ
- So will
- أَنتُم
- you
- مُّنتَهُونَ
- (be) the ones who abstain?
Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist?
