Sura 9 At-Tawbah (The Repentance), ayah 113

  1. مَا كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرُوا لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ وَلَوْ كَانُوا أُولِي قُرْبَىٰ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْجَحِيمِ

    Translation by words

    مَا
    Not
    كَانَ
    (it) is
    لِلنَّبِىِّ
    for the Prophet
    وَٱلَّذِينَ
    and those who
    ءَامَنُوٓا۟
    believe
    أَن
    that
    يَسْتَغْفِرُوا۟
    they ask forgiveness
    لِلْمُشْرِكِينَ
    for the polytheists,
    وَلَوْ
    even though
    كَانُوٓا۟
    they be
    أُو۟لِى
    near of kin,
    قُرْبَىٰ
    near of kin,
    مِنۢ
    after
    بَعْدِ
    after
    مَا
    [what]
    تَبَيَّنَ
    has become clear
    لَهُمْ
    to them,
    أَنَّهُمْ
    that they
    أَصْحَٰبُ
    (are the) companions
    ٱلْجَحِيمِ
    (of) the Hellfire.

    It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of Hellfire.
