Sura 9 At-Tawbah (The Repentance), ayah 46

  1. وَلَوْ أَرَادُوا الْخُرُوجَ لَأَعَدُّوا لَهُ عُدَّةً وَلَٰكِنْ كَرِهَ اللَّهُ انْبِعَاثَهُمْ فَثَبَّطَهُمْ وَقِيلَ اقْعُدُوا مَعَ الْقَاعِدِينَ

    Translation by words

    وَلَوْ
    And if
    أَرَادُوا۟
    they had wished
    ٱلْخُرُوجَ
    (to) go forth,
    لَأَعَدُّوا۟
    surely they (would) have prepared
    لَهُۥ
    for it
    عُدَّةً
    (some) preparation.
    وَلَٰكِن
    But
    كَرِهَ
    Allah disliked
    ٱللَّهُ
    Allah disliked
    ٱنۢبِعَاثَهُمْ
    their being sent,
    فَثَبَّطَهُمْ
    so He made them lag behind
    وَقِيلَ
    and it was said,
    ٱقْعُدُوا۟
    "Sit
    مَعَ
    with
    ٱلْقَٰعِدِينَ
    those who sit."

    And if they had intended to go forth, they would have prepared for it (some) preparation. But Allah disliked their being sent, so He kept them back, and they were told, "Remain (behind) with those who remain."
