Sura 18 Al-Kahf (The Cave), ayah 18

  1. وَتَحْسَبُهُمْ أَيْقَاظًا وَهُمْ رُقُودٌ ۚ وَنُقَلِّبُهُمْ ذَاتَ الْيَمِينِ وَذَاتَ الشِّمَالِ ۖ وَكَلْبُهُمْ بَاسِطٌ ذِرَاعَيْهِ بِالْوَصِيدِ ۚ لَوِ اطَّلَعْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ لَوَلَّيْتَ مِنْهُمْ فِرَارًا وَلَمُلِئْتَ مِنْهُمْ رُعْبًا

    Translation by words

    وَتَحْسَبُهُمْ
    And you (would) think them
    أَيْقَاظًا
    awake
    وَهُمْ
    while they
    رُقُودٌ
    (were) asleep.
    وَنُقَلِّبُهُمْ
    And We turned them
    ذَاتَ
    to
    ٱلْيَمِينِ
    the right
    وَذَاتَ
    and to
    ٱلشِّمَالِ
    the left,
    وَكَلْبُهُم
    while their dog
    بَٰسِطٌ
    stretched
    ذِرَاعَيْهِ
    his two forelegs
    بِٱلْوَصِيدِ
    at the entrance.
    لَوِ
    If
    ٱطَّلَعْتَ
    you had looked
    عَلَيْهِمْ
    at them,
    لَوَلَّيْتَ
    you (would) have surely turned back
    مِنْهُمْ
    from them
    فِرَارًا
    (in) flight
    وَلَمُلِئْتَ
    and surely you would have been filled
    مِنْهُمْ
    by them
    رُعْبًا
    (with) terror.

    And you would think them awake, while they were asleep. And We turned them to the right and to the left, while their dog stretched his forelegs at the entrance. If you had looked at them, you would have turned from them in flight and been filled by them with terror.
