Sura 22 Al-Hajj (The Pilgrimage), ayah 45

  1. فَكَأَيِّنْ مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ أَهْلَكْنَاهَا وَهِيَ ظَالِمَةٌ فَهِيَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلَىٰ عُرُوشِهَا وَبِئْرٍ مُعَطَّلَةٍ وَقَصْرٍ مَشِيدٍ

    Translation by words

    فَكَأَيِّن
    And how many
    مِّن
    of
    قَرْيَةٍ
    a township
    أَهْلَكْنَٰهَا
    We have destroyed it,
    وَهِىَ
    while it
    ظَالِمَةٌ
    was doing wrong,
    فَهِىَ
    so it
    خَاوِيَةٌ
    fell
    عَلَىٰ
    on
    عُرُوشِهَا
    its roofs,
    وَبِئْرٍ
    and well
    مُّعَطَّلَةٍ
    abandoned,
    وَقَصْرٍ
    and castle
    مَّشِيدٍ
    lofty.

    And how many a city did We destroy while it was committing wrong - so it is (now) fallen into ruin - and (how many) an abandoned well and (how many) a lofty palace.
