Sura 27 An-Naml (The Ant), ayah 20

  1. وَتَفَقَّدَ الطَّيْرَ فَقَالَ مَا لِيَ لَا أَرَى الْهُدْهُدَ أَمْ كَانَ مِنَ الْغَائِبِينَ

    Translation by words

    وَتَفَقَّدَ
    And he inspected
    ٱلطَّيْرَ
    the birds
    فَقَالَ
    and said,
    مَا
    "Why
    لِىَ
    "Why
    لَآ
    not
    أَرَى
    I see
    ٱلْهُدْهُدَ
    the hoopoe
    أَمْ
    or
    كَانَ
    is he
    مِنَ
    from
    ٱلْغَآئِبِينَ
    the absent?

    And he took attendance of the birds and said, "Why do I not see the hoopoe - or is he among the absent?
