Sura 36 Ya-Sin (Ya Sin), ayah 69

  1. وَمَا عَلَّمْنَاهُ الشِّعْرَ وَمَا يَنْبَغِي لَهُ ۚ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ وَقُرْآنٌ مُبِينٌ

    Translation by words

    وَمَا
    And not
    عَلَّمْنَٰهُ
    We taught him
    ٱلشِّعْرَ
    [the] poetry,
    وَمَا
    and not
    يَنۢبَغِى
    it is befitting
    لَهُۥٓ
    for him.
    إِنْ
    Not
    هُوَ
    it
    إِلَّا
    (is) except
    ذِكْرٌ
    a Reminder
    وَقُرْءَانٌ
    and a Quran
    مُّبِينٌ
    clear,

    And We did not give Prophet Muhammad, knowledge of poetry, nor is it befitting for him. It is not but a message and a clear Qur'an

    36:69
