Sura 42 Ash-Shura (The Consultation), ayah 21

  1. أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاءُ شَرَعُوا لَهُمْ مِنَ الدِّينِ مَا لَمْ يَأْذَنْ بِهِ اللَّهُ ۚ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةُ الْفَصْلِ لَقُضِيَ بَيْنَهُمْ ۗ وَإِنَّ الظَّالِمِينَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

    Translation by words

    أَمْ
    Or
    لَهُمْ
    for them
    شُرَكَٰٓؤُا۟
    (are) partners
    شَرَعُوا۟
    who have ordained
    لَهُم
    for them
    مِّنَ
    of
    ٱلدِّينِ
    the religion
    مَا
    what
    لَمْ
    not
    يَأْذَنۢ
    Allah has given permission of it
    بِهِ
    Allah has given permission of it
    ٱللَّهُ
    Allah has given permission of it
    وَلَوْلَا
    And if not
    كَلِمَةُ
    (for) a word
    ٱلْفَصْلِ
    decisive,
    لَقُضِىَ
    surely, it (would have) been judged
    بَيْنَهُمْ
    between them.
    وَإِنَّ
    And indeed,
    ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
    the wrongdoers,
    لَهُمْ
    for them
    عَذَابٌ
    (is a) punishment
    أَلِيمٌ
    painful.

    Or have they other deities who have ordained for them a religion to which Allah has not consented? But if not for the decisive word, it would have been concluded between them. And indeed, the wrongdoers will have a painful punishment.
