Sura 49 Al-Hujurat (The Inner Apartments), ayah 14

  1. قَالَتِ الْأَعْرَابُ آمَنَّا ۖ قُلْ لَمْ تُؤْمِنُوا وَلَٰكِنْ قُولُوا أَسْلَمْنَا وَلَمَّا يَدْخُلِ الْإِيمَانُ فِي قُلُوبِكُمْ ۖ وَإِنْ تُطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ لَا يَلِتْكُمْ مِنْ أَعْمَالِكُمْ شَيْئًا ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

    Translation by words

    قَالَتِ
    Say
    ٱلْأَعْرَابُ
    the Bedouins,
    ءَامَنَّا
    "We believe."
    قُل
    Say,
    لَّمْ
    "Not
    تُؤْمِنُوا۟
    you believe;
    وَلَٰكِن
    but
    قُولُوٓا۟
    say,
    أَسْلَمْنَا
    "We have submitted,"
    وَلَمَّا
    and has not yet
    يَدْخُلِ
    entered
    ٱلْإِيمَٰنُ
    the faith
    فِى
    in
    قُلُوبِكُمْ
    your hearts.
    وَإِن
    But if
    تُطِيعُوا۟
    you obey
    ٱللَّهَ
    Allah
    وَرَسُولَهُۥ
    and His Messenger,
    لَا
    not
    يَلِتْكُم
    He will deprive you
    مِّنْ
    of
    أَعْمَٰلِكُمْ
    your deeds
    شَيْـًٔا
    anything.
    إِنَّ
    Indeed,
    ٱللَّهَ
    Allah
    غَفُورٌ
    (is) Oft-Forgiving,
    رَّحِيمٌ
    Most Merciful.

    The bedouins say, "We have believed." Say, "You have not (yet) believed; but say (instead), 'We have submitted,' for faith has not yet entered your hearts. And if you obey Allah and His Messenger, He will not deprive you from your deeds of anything. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."
