Sura 5 Al-Ma'idah (The Table Spread), ayah 77
-
قُلْ يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ لَا تَغْلُوا فِي دِينِكُمْ غَيْرَ الْحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا أَهْوَاءَ قَوْمٍ قَدْ ضَلُّوا مِنْ قَبْلُ وَأَضَلُّوا كَثِيرًا وَضَلُّوا عَنْ سَوَاءِ السَّبِيلِ
Translation by words
- قُلْ
- Say,
- يَٰٓأَهْلَ
- "O People
- ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
- (of) the Book!
- لَا
- (Do) not
- تَغْلُوا۟
- exceed
- فِى
- in
- دِينِكُمْ
- your religion
- غَيْرَ
- other than
- ٱلْحَقِّ
- the truth,
- وَلَا
- and (do) not
- تَتَّبِعُوٓا۟
- follow
- أَهْوَآءَ
- (vain) desires
- قَوْمٍ
- (of) a people
- قَدْ
- certainly
- ضَلُّوا۟
- who went astray
- مِن
- from
- قَبْلُ
- before,
- وَأَضَلُّوا۟
- and they misled
- كَثِيرًا
- many,
- وَضَلُّوا۟
- and they have strayed
- عَن
- from
- سَوَآءِ
- (the) right
- ٱلسَّبِيلِ
- [the] way.
Say, "O People of the Scripture, do not exceed limits in your religion beyond the truth and do not follow the inclinations of a people who had gone astray before and misled many and have strayed from the soundness of the way."
