Sura 7 Al-A'raf (The Heights), ayah 94

  1. وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا فِي قَرْيَةٍ مِنْ نَبِيٍّ إِلَّا أَخَذْنَا أَهْلَهَا بِالْبَأْسَاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَضَّرَّعُونَ

    Translation by words

    وَمَآ
    And not
    أَرْسَلْنَا
    We sent
    فِى
    in
    قَرْيَةٍ
    a city
    مِّن
    any
    نَّبِىٍّ
    Prophet
    إِلَّآ
    except
    أَخَذْنَآ
    We seized
    أَهْلَهَا
    its people
    بِٱلْبَأْسَآءِ
    with adversity
    وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ
    and hardship,
    لَعَلَّهُمْ
    so that they may
    يَضَّرَّعُونَ
    (become) humble.

    And We sent to no city a prophet (who was denied) except that We seized its people with poverty and hardship that they might humble themselves (to Allah).
